What's happening in September for PreK?

PreK – September Curriculum Overview

Welcome to September in PreK! This month is all about gratitude, exploring the changes of early fall, and building friendships. Activities are hands-on, gentle, and designed for joyful discovery at home or outdoors. Choose what fits your child and enjoy learning together!

Weekly Subjects

  • Language Arts (Mon–Thu)
    • Week 5: Listen to and retell “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” Use pictures or toys to act out the story.
    • Week 6: Name Gratitude—Draw or collage pictures of people and things you are thankful for; practice saying “thank you.”
    • Week 7: Letter Exploration—Trace and build the letters G, T, and A with playdough, sticks, or yarn.
    • Week 8: Family Stories—Share a favorite family memory and draw a picture to go with it.
  • Math (Mon–Thu)
    • Week 5: Counting—Count apples, leaves, or steps on a nature walk.
    • Week 6: Sorting—Sort fall items (acorns, pinecones, leaves) by size, shape, or color.
    • Week 7: Patterns—Make simple patterns using colored leaves or blocks (red-yellow-red-yellow, etc.).
    • Week 8: Comparing—Use words like more, less, bigger, smaller to compare groups of objects.
  • Science & Nature (Mon–Thu)
    • Week 5: Leaf Hunt—Collect different leaves and talk about their colors, shapes, and textures.
    • Week 6: Acorn & Seed Discovery—Find and examine seeds or acorns; talk about how plants grow.
    • Week 7: Weather Watch—Notice and draw changes in the sky; talk about cooler mornings or windy days.
    • Week 8: Animal Friends—Look for squirrels, birds, or bugs and talk about what they do in fall.
  • Social-Emotional & Practical Life (Mon–Thu)
    • Week 5: Thankfulness—Practice saying “please” and “thank you” in daily routines.
    • Week 6: Friendship—Role play sharing, helping, and welcoming new friends.
    • Week 7: Feelings—Talk about what makes you happy, proud, or thankful; use faces or drawings.
    • Week 8: Helping Hands—Help sweep leaves, tidy toys, or set the table together.
  • Art & Music (Mon–Thu)
    • Week 5: Leaf printing with paint or crayons.
    • Week 6: Make a gratitude collage with magazine cutouts or drawings.
    • Week 7: Sing “The Leaves on the Trees” and play with scarves or ribbons for movement.
    • Week 8: Create animal masks or hats (squirrel, bird, etc.) for pretend play.
  • Movement & Outdoor Play (Mon–Thu)
    • Each Week: Daily outdoor play, leaf jumping, animal walks (waddle like a duck, scamper like a squirrel), and nature walks.
